Song of the week: Playback

Yesterday evening was the final gala of the show Canção da minha vida (Song of my life) on the first channel of RTP. This program intended to choose the all time favourite portuguese song from a group of 35 pre-selected evergreens. Among this songs were some of the most popular portuguese participants in the ESC like Ele e ela, Desfolhada, Depois do adeus and Lusitana paixão. The winning song was Cinderela by Carlos Paião, which was one of the most creative and popular portuguese singer's/songwriter's of the 1980's. He won the 1981 edition of the Festival da canção with the ironic song Playback. In my opinion this was not the most suitable song for the ESC 1981 (Doce's song Ali baba could easely have achieved a top 5 result in Dublin) but it was certainly one of the most original songs we ever sended to the Eurovision.

I would like to dedicate this song Playback to the "singers" of the show Canção da minha vida. If they had sung in playback they would not have ruinned so many good songs with their awfull performances...
